On Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Potter College of Arts and Letters (PCAL) and the Center for Gifted Studies brought the Bowling Green Junior High School Black Male Scholars to campus. Over the course of their visit the sixth and seventh graders met with Dean Brown to discuss future career goals in the FAC Recital Hall. However, before they made the journey to various departments housed in PCAL, they took a selfie with Dean Brown. 

While the sixth-graders received tours of the Film and Broadcast Journalism programs in the School of Media with professors Travis Newton and Brad Pfranger, the seventh-graders visited the Department of Music and played some acting and musical games with Dr. Liza Kelly. 

When their individual department experiences had concluded, the Scholars were given a tour of the Jonesville Exhibit at the Kentucky Museum by Brent Bjorkman, Dr. Christy Spurlock, and Tiffany Isselhardt.

Following the tour of the Jonesville Exhibit, the students were brought to the Cupola Room in Fresh Food Company to enjoy pizza with Dean Brown. The students then departed from WKU to return to school. 

The Black Male Scholars program is focused on providing young men with a supportive setting in order for them to achieve success. The Scholars program focuses on collaboration and fellowship and the relationship between the Scholars and their mentors within the program, which emphasizes a sense of community.
