Next summer, medical students will begin classes at the new University of Kentucky College of Medicine–Bowling Green Campus, the first regional campus medical school of its kind in Kentucky. The new school will also bring a WKU alumnus and longtime UK professor and administrator back to southcentral Kentucky, along with his expertise in one of the greatest threats facing our state and our nation: the opioid epidemic.

Dr. Todd R. Cheever, associate dean of the new medical school, will be the featured guest during “An Evening With” on Nov. 14 at WKU’s Augenstein Alumni Center, 292 Alumni Ave. Dr. Cheever is a faculty member of the UK Department of Psychiatry whose clinical work has focused on treating adults with chronic mental illnesses and substance use disorders. He has done extensive studies on the effects of opioid addiction and will share valuable insight into the increase in addiction and how to treat it.

“An Evening With” is an intimate discussion with thought-leaders and experts from various fields through a moderator-led interview led by WKU alumnus and local author Larry Gildersleeve. Attendees also have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the discussion.

The event will begin at 7 p.m.; doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for coffee and desserts. Free parking will be available in the Alumni Square Garage.

This “An Evening With” program is co-hosted by the WKU Alumni Association and the Society for Lifelong Learning at WKU (SLL), a member-driven organization that offers a wide range of high quality, intellectually stimulating, non-credit educational programs and experiences for ages 50 and over who have a love for learning.
