FDA Center for Tobacco to Launch Six-Month Text Messaging Pilot Program

Sign Up: Tobacco Regulations Mobile Texting Pilot Program
FDA's Center for Tobacco Products, has launched a six month text messaging program in its ongoing efforts to educate our stakeholders about federal regulations to protect kids from tobacco.
To sign up, text BreakChain to 87000 from your mobile phone.
Messages will include information on
FDA rules that limit the sale, distribution, and marketing of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco Provisions that prohibit the advertising or labeling of tobacco products with the descriptors "light," "mild," or "low" or similar descriptors without an FDA order Requirementsthat new, larger health warning labels for smokeless tobacco products

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 1. How do I sign up?Send a text message with the word BREAKCHAIN in the body of the message to 87000.2. Is there a cost?FDA does not charge subscribers to participate in this program. Standard text messaging and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply.3. How many messages will I receive?When you sign up, you will receive a series of introductory messages/questions. After that, you should expect to receive approximately three messages a week for the first month, and one message a week for the remaining five months. 4. How do I opt out?You can opt out at any time by sending a reply with the word BREAKCHAIN QUIT in the body of the message.5. How do I win the opportunity to be featured by the FDA in a podcast? For the first four weeks of the program, FDA will send two educational messages (on Mondays and Wednesdays). Every Friday, a weekly quiz will ask subscribers to correctly answer a question about the new tobacco legislation. One winner will be selected each week for the first four weeks.
