When a student chooses to come to WKU, the goal is for them to capture the Hilltopper Spirit and chart a unique journey. Some of the most popular advice first-year students receive is to “Get involved!”

Cade Mitchell, a Psychology major from Mt. Juliet, TN, is using his time on The Hill to experience all he can and learn as much as possible along the way.

WKU has always been a part of Mitchell’s life. “Both of my parents attended when they were in college in the 90’s. I always loved visiting campus as a kid and getting to go on campus every day is just so nice because it is so beautiful. I love how easy it is to get involved in things at WKU because everyone is so nice.”

Mitchell is a Psychology major and is particularly interested in the Sports Psychology field.

“I chose psychology because I have always been interested in learning more about how people process various things and how that affects who they are. It is a very interesting topic to me, and I love learning more and more about it in every class. My favorite class so far has been Sports Psychology with Dr. Wininger. I have loved sports since before I can even remember and getting to see the psychology that goes into sports is so interesting to me.”

After graduating next fall, Mitchell says he wants to “open up my own counseling/therapy office and help people who may be experiencing problems in their life. One day, I want to go into sports psychology and maybe work with a professional baseball team.”

This semester, Mitchell is away from WKU and is spending the semester with the Disney College Program. He is working at Magic Kingdom in Pinocchio Village Haus. He credits WKU to making him more open to people and more outgoing while working at Disney.

“My experiences at both WKU and here at Disney have both made me a much more well-rounded person. I have met so many people at both WKU and Disney that make me understand so much more about the world and different peoples’ experiences in life. It is very easy to apply psychology in everyday situations because it is such an integral part of life. Being at Disney and getting to go to the parks and see how happy it makes people is such a joy to experience every day.”

Despite being at the “most magical place on Earth,” Mitchell is looking forward to being back in Bowling Green soon.

“The best part of my WKU experience so far has been living with my roommates at the Columns and rushing Lambda Chi Alpha. My roommates at the Columns and my brothers in Lambda Chi Alpha have become some of my best friends, and I can’t wait to come back and hang out with all of them.”
