Why did you choose WKU?
I chose WKU because I knew this university would offer several opportunities to grow as a professional, and I knew it would challenge me to learn and grow as a person.
Why did you choose your degree program?
I chose this degree program because I wanted to continue to learn about psychology and build the skills necessary to provide services in this field, such as therapy and assessment.
What key activities/organizations have shaped your WKU experience?
The WKU Counseling Center has shaped my experience because I have been working as a master’s level intern and giving counseling to several WKU students. The staff and therapists at the Counseling Center have given me invaluable tips and tools for success in my field.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
After graduation, I plan on working to get licensed as a therapist. I would eventually like to get my PhD in Clinical Psychology and work as a professor or a clinician.
What experience(s) have you had during your years as a WKU student that have helped or is helping you prepare for a career after graduation?
My internship at the WKU Counseling Center has definitely prepared me to work as a counselor in the future, and I have received helpful supervision and feedback throughout my time here. Also, I have a strong support system here at WKU that includes my professors, supervisors, and fellow classmates in my program.
What has been the best part of your WKU experience? Why?
The best part of my WKU experience so far has been the overwhelming support and guidance that my professors and supervisors have given me. All of my professors and supervisors are supportive and understanding, yet they challenge me to constantly learn and grow.
Are there any life experiences that impacted you in your pursuit of obtaining this degree that you would like to share?
In my pursuit of obtaining this degree, one major life experience that I have endured is burnout. I have learned that burnout can cause a mountain of problems, so learning how to take care of myself and take breaks when needed has been extremely helpful for me.
What advice do you have for future Hilltoppers?
I think that the best advice I can give to future college students is to trust your gut when it comes to making decisions, and always keep an open mind to learning and changing as a person. The worst thing you can do is become set in your ways, and college is the perfect time to challenge outdated beliefs and values. Also, you can learn something from everyone you meet.
