Good morning WKU Campus Community,

I wanted to provide some information as we move forward in recovery from the devastating effects of this weekend’s tornado. As a university we were extremely fortunate that the storm skirted the perimeter and did not directly strike the heart of campus. We all know someone who has been impacted in some way by the storm, and many of you are already engaged in community recovery efforts. If you or a family member needs assistance due to the effects of the storm, please contact your supervisor or the WKU Disaster Assistance Call Center at (270) 745-5888. 

A tragedy such as what we experienced is extremely stressful, and in the aftermath some individuals, especially children, may become overwhelmed and need help. Faculty, staff and their families have access to the Employee Assistance Program. The program provides five free, confidential, short-term counseling sessions—as well as referrals and access to educational tools and resources—for a variety of personal matters, including stress management. Our campus infrastructure is largely functional though phone service remains intermittent. As we return to campus and our buildings, please note any issues and report them by submitting a maintenance workorder or by calling the Department of Facilities Management at (270) 745-3253 M-F 7:30 am – 4:30 pm. After hours and weekends please call the WKU Police at (270) 745-2548.

Dean of Students Martha Sales is working with our students who have been displaced and affected by the storm. To provide monetary support to those students, you can make a donation to WKU’s Emergency Student Assistance through the Opportunity Fund website. WBKO has compiled a list of ways community members can provide assistance in recovery efforts. Please visit the WBKO website frequently as updates continue to be made.  

Due to ongoing issues and damage in our community, we will not be able to host Fall Recognition Ceremonies this semester. The Registrar’s Office is contacting December graduates this week to provide information about our Spring 2022 Commencement activities. 

The Preston Center is open to faculty, staff and students and their families in need of warm showers from 6 am to 6 pm through this Friday, December 17. Please bring your WKU ID.

Jody Richards Hall Computer Lab is up and running, and we have opened its doors to the Bowling Green community from 8 am to 8 pm through this Friday, December 17. We know many are in need of this resource, especially those working through insurance claims and other activities. Please help us share this information. 

Mail and package services will be limited to pick up at the Supply Services Building. Contact the Postal Services or Shipping and Receiving if you have questions.

For the remainder of the calendar year parking will be open to allow more flexibility for employees and students while on campus. Handicapped and Reserved Spaces are not included and require the appropriate permit at all times. 

Athletic events will continue. Please consult the appropriate schedule or ticket resource to verify that a particular event remains on track.
