The WKU Graduate School will host the second annual Three Minute Thesis Competition on Wednesday (Feb. 23) from 3 to 4 p.m. at Downing Student Union, room 2123.

Four WKU graduate students will have up to three minutes each to synthesize their key findings from their projects and concisely present their research such that a lay audience can understand. The 3MT® competition is an academic research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia.

• M.S. Biology student Whitney Heard will present on the topic of A Possible Solution to Antibiotic Resistance.
• M.S. Geoscience student Amy Hourigan will present on the topic of An Investigation of Carbon Cycling in a Karst Groundwater System.
• M.S. Homeland Security Sciences student Salizhan Kylychbekov will present on the topic of Coating of Biomedical implants with crystalline hydroxyapatite to promote their biocompatibility in human body.
• M.S. Chemistry student Symone Whalin will present on the topic of Liquid Chromatography with Tandem Mass Spectrometry Method Development for the Determination of β–Defensins in Bovine Milk.

The first-place winner qualifies to represent WKU in the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) 3MT® competition.
