During the 2022 spring break, WKU Student Activities sponsored two alternative break trips.
One of Student Activities’ Alternative Spring Break trips went to Washington, D.C., for an immersive cultural experience. Students toured museums and monuments across the nation’s capital and spent one day of service with Martha’s Table, an organization that provides healthy foods to food insecure neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. Other activities included visits to Smithsonian museums, such as the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Air and Space Museum, and the National Gallery of Art. Other visits included the International Spy Museum, the Holocaust Museum, and a visit to the Capital One Arena to see the Washington Wizards play the Denver Nuggets.
The other Alternative Spring Break trip was service-oriented and students got the opportunity to volunteer at different locations. Students served with the Army in Savannah, Georgia, and enjoyed a Ghost Trolley Tour. Students then traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, and served at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, and the Birmingham Salvation Army.
