The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at WKU will host events for their first Diversity & Inclusion Week beginning Monday, March 28th. Events throughout the week will celebrate and feature aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion across the various disciplines of the college. All events are free and open to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Dr. Tania Basta, Dean of CHHS, said, “Diversity, equity, and inclusion is a priority for WKU and CHHS, and given the diversity of programs in our college, we want to celebrate our unique attributes. This inaugural week of events will highlight events such as, Military Awareness and Appreciation Day, adaptive sports demonstrations, and Deaf Culture and Hearing Awareness Education. We hope individuals from the WKU community and beyond will participate in this inaugural event.”
The CHHS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) workgroup came up with the idea for a week focused on diversity and inclusion. Dr. Kimberly Green, chair of the workgroup, said, “Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are fundamental elements embedded in the core values we hold not only as a college, but throughout the health and human services professions. CHHS is excited to celebrate and share who we are and what we do through the lens of DEI. We are hopeful that this focused week of DEI-based education and activities encourages continued engagement across CHHS and the greater WKU community.”
Other members of the CHHS DEI workgroup include Drs. Allie McCreary, Terry Obee, Austin Griffiths, Kurt Neeley, April Murphy, Jean Chen, and alumni student representative, Mr. Roderick Maul.
