Why did you choose WKU’s PsyD in Applied Psychology program?
I was working as a Social Worker in a hospice setting and I enjoyed working with clients so much. I decided that I loved a clinical setting and wanted to be able to take the next step in being able to help others. WKU had a great opportunity to develop my clinical skills and open opportunities that I have not had before. 

What key activities/organizations have shaped your WKU experience? 
I am currently completing my practicum at Athena Care. This organization has taken me under their wing and shown me a whole new world of psychological testing. I have learned so much and really am enjoying my time at Athena Care. 

How have you already applied what you are learning?
I have had the opportunity to have two practicum placements where I have been able to directly use what I’m learning in class with clients. WKU’s PsyD program has given me the tools and support system to learn and put my clinical skills to use. I have always felt supported by professors and faculty to ask questions, be challenged, and to grow. 

What do you hope to do after graduation?
After graduation, I would like to continue to do testing like I am currently doing in my practicum setting. I am seeing children, adults, and geriatrics for psychological, autism, and neuro testing. I am participating in the intake portion, administering assessments, and developing conclusions and recommendations for treatment.

What has been the best part of your WKU experience? 
I have enjoyed the practicum experience at WKU.  Course work has prepared me to go out and work with clients, but the practicum experience has been the hands-on opportunity that I’ve needed. I have enjoyed being with clients and being able to provide them answers to their questions and help develop what the next step in treatment for them is. I have loved this ability to be with clients and seeing what I’m learning in class be put to practice, along with having the WKU faculty as supporters. 

What advice do you have for future PsyD students?
My advice is to not be afraid to ask questions! The staff and your cohort members are willing to answer questions and provide insight that has been so helpful for me throughout this process.
