Thanks to a partnership with Abound Credit Union, Western Kentucky University’s Center for Financial Success (CFS) expands its residential high school summer camp. The new partnership with Abound Credit Union provides significant support for the camp and allows CFS to increase scholarships for campers, among other things.
“Abound is excited to support WKU's Personal Finance Summer Camp”, said Ray Springsteen President / CEO of Abound Credit Union. “Helping Kentuckians live better is a primary focus here at Abound. The credit union invests in financial education programs throughout the state from elementary school to adults. WKU’s Personal Finance Camp is a great way to help more Kentuckians learn basic personal finance principles and lead better lives.”
The Personal Finance Summer Camp will run from June 26th through June 30th. The camp launched in the summer of 2021 with 14 high school students. This summer, the camp is scheduled to host 30 rising 10th-grade through 12th-grade students from across Kentucky, and Tennessee. Campers will spend five-days living on campus, learning about personal finance, and competing in a financial plan case study competition. The case study requires the teams to build a financial plan for a mock client with a presentation on the last day of the camp. As part of the experience, the campers visit local financial firms and their advisors serve as a resource for the case study competition. The camp counselors are financial planning students who provide guidance and support throughout the camp.
Kentucky Treasurer, Honorable Allison Ball is scheduled to deliver in-person remarks at the Closing Awards Ceremony on June 30th. The Treasurer has played a vital role in expanding access to financial literacy in Kentucky, including spearheading the creation of the Kentucky Financial Empowerment Commission and we appreciate her support for our camp.
