WKU English Professor's Screenplay Places 1st in University Film & Video Association Competition
- Thursday, August 11th, 2022
Assistant Professor Jessica L. Folk's feature-length screenplay, "Tallie,” received 1st place in the University Film & Video Association's (UFVA) 2022 juried screenplay competition. This award is given annually to the top feature screenplay of the year at UFVA's annual conference. UFVA is an international organization of film, television, documentary, new media, and experimental filmmakers/educators.
"Tallie" features a queer teen who is falling for her best friend, all while worrying that her two moms might be careening towards divorce. She must reckon with these feelings for her friend while also fighting to keep her moms together. Folk often writes screenplays featuring LGBTQIA+ characters, especially queer women, and plans to continue to do so in her future projects.
This is the first competition Folk has entered "Tallie" into since completing the script earlier this year. She plans to submit "Tallie" to other festivals and competitions in the coming months. Her other screenplays have placed in or won at the LGBTQ+ Los Angeles Film Festival, the Richmond International Film Festival, the ScreenCraft TV Pilot Competition, and others.
