For the 10th consecutive year, Western Kentucky University has earned national recognition as a “Best for Vets” school by Military Times.
WKU is ranked 42nd in the nation and sixth in the Appalachia region in the 2022 Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges rankings. WKU has ranked as a “Best for Vets” school every year since 2013.
“The ‘Best for Vets’ school designation by Military Times is a testament to the hard work and dedication of faculty, staff, and administrators at WKU, who go above and beyond to provide personalized support to our military and veteran connected students, and who ensure that we have policies, procedures, and programs in place, to help ensure their success,” said Kent Johnson, Director of Military Student Services. “WKU works hard to ensure that our military and veteran connected students are not only provided a quality education, but also work to ensure that that pursuing their education is affordable and that barriers to access and success are reduced.”
More than 300 schools participated in the latest Best for Vets: Colleges survey, which included more than 70 questions on their services and programs specific to military students — whether active-duty, veteran or families and dependents of service members.
WKU serves veterans through several programs, including Military Student Services, Veterans Upward Bound and Office of Veterans Affairs. WKU offers a military tuition rate of $250 per credit hour for undergraduate and graduate courses to all active duty, reserve and National Guard members.
WKU Military Student Services offers the Textbooks For Troops program and provides other services, including support and guidance with tuition assistance requests for all branches of the military.
“Given that the selection process for the ‘Best for Vets’ school designation also looks at metrics of student success, this designation is not only a testament to the outstanding support system put in place at WKU, but also is evidence of the quality educational experiences provided our students,” Johnson said. “With this combination of top-notch academic programs and support services at WKU, military and veteran connected students can know that they are more than just a number. That at WKU we are passionate and purposeful in our pursuit of student success.”
WKU also been designated as a "Military Friendly School" every year since 2009 by Victory Media. For more about WKU’s programs for veterans and military personnel, visit https://www.wku.edu/veterans/
