Bowling Green novelist Courtney “Court” Stevens will be the featured guest reader at the 26^th annual Mary Ellen and Jim Wayne Miller Celebration of Writing at 2 p.m. Sunday (October 30) on the WKU Campus in Cherry Hall, Room 125.

Stevens, a former adjunct professor, youth minister, Olympic torchbearer, and bookseller, will read from her new novel, We Were Kings.

The English Department holds this celebration annually in honor of a literary power couple who devoted their lives to WKU. Jim Wayne Miller served as a German Professor and Kentucky Poet Laureate, and Mary Ellen Miller taught in the English Department for over 50 years. The free event is open to the public and will be followed by a reception.

In addition to reading from her own work, Stevens will judge a fiction writing contest for WKU undergraduates. The 10 finalists will workshop their fiction with Stevens on the morning of October 30. During her reading at 2 p.m. that day, Stevens will name the first, second, and third prize winners, who will receive $100, $50, and $25, respectively. In alphabetical order, the finalists are: Caeley Ballard, Zeita Beaver, Kaylee ben Yosef, James Embry, Debra Murray, Garrison Parker, Tyanna Poindexter, Joseph Shoulders, Miriam Story, and Daniel Ungs.
