Graduate student Darby Bowser, from Westmorland, Tennessee, did not know what she wanted to do after high school.
“All I knew was I wanted to work in the business world, and I wanted to wear cute suits to work every day,” said Darby.
When picking a college, it was an easy choice for Darby.
“When I visited WKU, it felt like home. The campus is beautiful, and it is a short drive from my hometown, which was also very important to me.”
When choosing her major freshman year, accounting was at the top of the list alphabetically. She chose it with the full intent of changing it later. However, Darby fell in love with her accounting classes freshman year and never changed her major.
On Friday, Darby will graduate with her Master of Accountancy and Data Analysis. The Accounting Jump program allowed Darby to finish her Bachelor's and Master’s degree in 4.5 years.
During her time at WKU, Darby has been involved with student organizations like Kappa Delta and Best Buddies. She also completed three different internships. She worked at CRI as a Tax Intern, for the Tennessee State Treasury in the Accounting Division, and for Blankenship CPA Group as an Audit Intern.
“Each of these opportunities has truly prepared me for life after graduation and has helped me determine which area of accounting I wanted to go into.”
When asked about her WKU experience, Darby said, “The best part of my WKU experience has been the people I have met while here. I met my fiancé here as a freshman… as well as some of my best friends. WKU will always hold such a sweet place in my heart!”
After graduation, Darby will work for McMurray, Fox, and Associated in their auditing department and study for her CPA licensing exams.
