Side by Side is a program for school aged children with special needs. School aged children take a series of free classes at the Kentucky Museum which are followed by a one-on-one collaborative session with a professional artist. This enables young artists to explore the creative process as a group in small classes as well as receive individual attention from a professional artist mentor. This program highlights the importance of the role of local artists in the life of their community and provides opportunities to build bridges by bringing diverse groups of citizens together to learn through, participate in, and enjoy art.
Classes begin Saturday, February 11, and continue for 4 consecutive Saturdays with collaborations scheduled for March 11. This year, elementary classes are 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Middle and high school classes are from 11 am to 12:30 pm.
At the conclusion of the classes, student works will be presented in an exhibition at the Kentucky Museum. The opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Saturday, April 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. The Side by Side exhibition will run from April 22 to June 30, 2022, after which young artists can take home their works.
If interested in enrolling a child, please download REGISTRATION FORM and PARENT LETTER, and submit registration accordingly. Class size is limited and registration is required.
