The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the WKU College of Health and Human Services recently attended the 2023 annual convention of the Kentucky Speech-Language Hearing Association in Lexington, Kentucky.

Faculty, students, and alumni recognized at the event include the following:
Emerging Leaders at the KSHA convention is an invitation-only event for top student leaders in Kentucky’s universities. This special session empowered students with knowledge and skills to lead high-performing teams, and the following students represented WKU:

Lauren Bland, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Associate Professor
Awarded 2023 Honors of KSHA. This award recognizes “distinguished” educational, professional, and/or administrative activity to the profession of speech-language pathology or audiology in Kentucky.

Jenny Burton, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Assistant Professor
Awarded best professional poster: Reciprocal Social Interaction, Communication, and Repetitive Behaviors and Interests in Girls with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Average IQ

Caroline Hudson, M.S., CCC-SLP, Clinic Director
Awarded the KSHA-ASHF Clinical Achievement Award at the annual KSHA Convention. This award is presented to a speech-language pathologist or audiologist for demonstrated contributions to advancing knowledge in clinical practice in Kentucky. Significant recent accomplishments must have been completed within the past six years. Caroline is the Director of Speech Language Pathology and Curriculum Development at the Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex at WKU. She also directs clinical services for the WKU Communication Disorders Clinic.
