Western Kentucky University’s 53^rd Annual WKU Student Scholar Showcase, formerly known as the WKU Student Research Conference, will be held Saturday, April 1, at Downing Student Union.

The WKU Student Scholar Showcase will feature 231 research and creative projects -- 126 poster presentations and exhibits, 94 oral presentations and 11 performances – from graduate, undergraduate and Gatton Academy students in all disciplines. The conference keynote speaker is Dr. Rachel Tinius, Associate Professor in the WKU School of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport. Dr. Tinius will present Never Stop Learning: How the Desire to Learn Shaped a Career in Pregnancy and Clinical Research at 10:15 a.m. at Downing Student Union, room 3020.

The conference schedule features student presentations from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Downing Student Union. All presentations are free and open to the public.

The research and creative projects are organized into graduate sessions and undergraduate sessions with five to six presentations per session. Students are grouped into sessions based on the subject areas of their projects: natural sciences, social sciences and education, health and human services, arts and humanities, business, and interdisciplinary studies.

The WKU Student Scholar Showcase Council organizes the annual conference. Dr. Ranjit Koodali, Associate Provost for Research and Graduate Education, serves as Chair of the Showcase Council.

“The Showcase event provides an excellent opportunity for students to display their research and creative scholarship to the campus and larger local community and thereby demonstrate the high quality of scholarly activities being pursued by them under the careful mentorship of faculty,” Dr. Koodali said.

Funding for the 53rd Annual WKU Student Scholar Showcase and other activities was provided by the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Office of Research and Creative Activity.
