The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) has approved WKU’s chapter for affiliation with the national organization. 

NABJ is a nonprofit organization that provides programs and services to its members and supports Black journalists and media professionals in the United States and worldwide.

“It’s exciting to bring this organization to WKU’s campus and to provide another resource for our students to connect with and learn from high-level professionals and journalists,” says Professor Ryan Dearbone, co-advisor of WKU’s chapter of NABJ. “It’s always important to create spaces for our students to see people who look like them achieving success and to be able to be mentored by those same people. We are looking forward to growing our chapter and to helping position our students for success both here at WKU and once they leave.”

Students who possess a NABJ membership have access to scholarships, internships, courses, and projects like the organization’s Student Projects program at their annual convention. In this program, students will collaborate with professional journalists and public relations practitioners to create newscasts and newspapers, aid in web design and support, and facilitate corporate communications for the convention.

Other membership perks include access to the NABJ job portal, networking opportunities, subscriptions to NABJ-affiliated newsletters, and discounts for NABJ events.
