What is it like to be a bat? Do plants have feelings? How do we know we are conscious? These are just some of the questions our pre-college philosophers answered in the Hilltopper Philosophy Academy. Professor Landon Elkind led the discussion as pre-college students got the opportunity to explore some of the big ideas that philosophy introduces. Exploring theories and ideas like the philosphical zombie helps display the intriacies of philosphy. These theories posed thought-provoking questions for students to disucss with one another. Students engaged in lively debate topics, such as the power of summoning infinte lobsters or infinte pennies. These debates helped students to devlop skills and articulate their opinions.
As the program drew to a close, students proudly showcased their acquired knowledge through captivating presentations. After five days of discussion and exploration, the students' knowledge was tested...against their parents! This lively game of philosophical jeopardy was won by the Philtoppers.
This exceptional program serves as an ideal gateway to acquaint pre-college students with the captivating world of philosophy, offering a glimpse into the possibilities that await them in their academic futures.
