WKU Public Radio staff members, WKU students finalists for awards

Two WKU Public Radio staff members and five WKU students are finalists for the Kentucky Broadcasters Association’s 2023 Impact Broadcast Awards.
Lisa Autry, reporter/producer at WKYU-FM, is a finalist in five categories: Long Public Affairs for "COVID Still Having Profound Effects on Kentucky Youth in 2022"; Use of Sound for "Mission Complete: Honor Flight Bluegrass sends 82 WWII, Korean, and Vietnam War Veterans to Washington D.C."; Political Coverage; Continuing Coverage for "Bowling Green Residents Impacted by Tornado Still Waiting for Permanent Housing Solutions"; and Enterprise Reporting for "Plowing Ahead: How Farmers in Bremen are Coping Six Months after Historic Tornado."
Alana Watson, reporter/All Things Considered host at WKYU-FM, is a finalist in Special Series/Documentary for "Post-Dobbs Kentucky: The Present and Future of Abortion Rights in the Commonwealth."
WKYU-FM also is a finalist for Short Newscast.
WKU broadcasting students are finalists in College Television and College Radio contests.
In College Television, Adi Schanie is a finalist in Best News Story for "Body Camera Footage of Breonna Taylor Raid Shown at Bowling Green Restaurant” and "Censure Hearing Over an Instagram Post Liked by WKU's SGA President"; Best Television Reporter; and Best Digital Journalist.
Karenna Chaudoin is a finalist in Best Feature Story for "Wishy Washy”; and Best Videographer.
Ashlyn Hernandez and Sophie South are finalists for Best Newscast.
In College Radio, Best News Story finalists are Austin Preston for "Booker Coverage" and Sophie South for "Hurricane Ian."
Awards will be presented Sept. 24 during the KPA Annual Conference.
