WKU Bass Fishing team members Tyler Hudson and Evan McNaughton have been fishing together since they were students at South Warren High School. This week, they will be trying to reel in a national title.
The WKU seniors are among 130 teams competing in the 2023 Strike King Bassmaster College National Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops.
The tournament will be held Thursday-Saturday (Aug. 10-12) at Pickwick Lake in Counce, Tennessee. The teams will begin three days of practice on Monday. (Read more about the tournament)
“We will be fishing against the best of the best,” Hudson said. “I’m excited to get down there to represent WKU and our sponsors.”
The field will take off from Pickwick Landing State Park each day at 6 a.m. CT and return at 1:45 p.m. for weigh-in. Full coverage will be available on Bassmaster.com.
Hudson and McNaughton, both of Bowling Green, qualified for the national tournament with a 12th-place finish in the Bassmaster College Series Wild Card event in June at Lay Lake in Alabama. “To my knowledge, this is the first time anyone from WKU has made the Bassmaster national tournament,” said Hudson, son of WKU Volleyball coach Travis Hudson.
Hudson and McNaughton are among about 15 students who are part of the WKU Bass Fishing Club.
