ONE WKU Lunch & Learns Series
- Thursday, August 24th, 2023
Colleagues - Welcome back and welcome to WKU if you are new!
In 2020, we launched the ONE WKU Campaign in the middle of a global pandemic. This initiative was born out of the idea that WKU is truly committed to being an inclusive university, no matter who you are or where you work, learn, and grow with us. As many of you already know, WKU received AASCU’s Excellence & Innovation Award for DEI Leadership in 2022 for the initiatives and efforts created to make this “a safe and welcoming campus.” Winning that award, however, was not the pinnacle, it was just the beginning. We will continue building upon our efforts from the previous years, striving to genuinely make WKU a place “Where EveryONE Belongs!”
This academic year, fall 2023 and spring 2024, we will launch our new ONE WKU Lunch & Learn Series focused on various aspects of engagement, opportunities, and belonging on our campuses and in our communities. We will delve into meaningful dialogues and conversations about state and federal legislation, workplace inclusiveness and communication, and much more. The first two in the series are just around the corner. See below for registration information:
ONE WKU Lunch & Learns Series:
Grab some lunch at one of the many restaurants in The Commons, or bring your Flintstones lunchbox from home, and head to room 3002 for some good conversation.
September 7, 11:30am-12:30pm – The Supreme Court Decision & Affirmative Action
WKU General Counsel, Andrea Anderson, will give an overview of the Supreme Court’s recent decision on Affirmative Action and explain what that means for WKU. This will be an interactive discussion with plenty of time for questions. To read the full text of the decision, click HERE.
September 11, 11:30am – 12:30pm - Cross Generational Communication Discussion
WKU Director of Residence Life, Blair Jensen, will share some insight on generation differences and why we seem to have a generational communication gap. From the workplace to the classroom, peer to peer, colleague to colleague, faculty to student, parent to child… this session is for YOU! When you register, you will have access to a white paper that will get you started on the journey to breaking the intergenerational communication code!
Want to plan ahead? These Lunch & Learns are coming later in the semester, so go ahead and put them on your calendar. Information for registration will be coming soon:
- October 19 - Sexual Harassment & Domestic Violence in the Workplace
- October 26 - LGBTQ Awareness in the Workplace & Transgender Inclusion
- November 17 - Inclusive Holidays (a special afternoon session with guest speakers, food, and fun!)
