WKU Forensics wins debate competition at North Texas

WKU Forensics won two divisions in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the “Demougeot Debates” hosted by the University of North Texas October 14-15.
Sophomore Rae Fournier of Woodbridge, Virginia, placed first with wins over John Carroll University, Truman State University, University of North Texas, and Washburn University. Fournier was the Top Speaker of the tournament.
Freshman Nik Schintgen of Lansing, Kansas, placed in the Top 10 with wins over the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of North Texas, Washburn University, and Truman State University. Schintgen was the fifth speaker in the tournament.
Sophomore JaKayla Brown of Kansas City, Kansas, took first in the Junior Varsity Division with wins over the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Washburn University, Wichita State University, and Kansas Wesleyan College. Brown was also named the Top Speaker in her division.
Director of Debate Chad Meadows added: “This was one of the most challenging invitational tournaments we will see this season, and to win both divisions against several very challenging teams is a validating experience for our students and staff. It’s motivation to continue developing our arguments and skills.”
Next week, WKU Forensics will compete in a tournament at Marshall University.
