WKU to celebrate Black History Month 2024

WKU will kick off its celebration of Black History Month 2024 with NOIR: A Night of Black Excellence at 6 p.m. Wednesday (January 31) at Downing Student Union, room 3024. The opening event will feature keynote speaker Lamont Pearley Sr.
This year’s Black History Month theme is African Americans and the Arts. The events are coordinated by the Cynthia and George Nichols III Intercultural Student Engagement Center.
Here is a list of other Black History Month events:
- For the Culture: Multicultural Preview Day, 2 p.m. Thursday (February 1) at Downing Student Union, third floor; pre-registration is required.
- Black History Month Night at Hilltopper Basketball, sponsored by WKU Athletics, 8 p.m. Thursday (February 1) at Diddle Arena. The event will begin with a pregame mixer at 6 p.m. in the Diddle Arena auxiliary gym.
- Mr. and Miss for the Culture Scholarship Pageant, 7 p.m. Friday (February 2) at Downing Student Union Auditorium; mocktail hour at 6 p.m. Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the door.
- Black Educators Panel, sponsored by Office of Professional Educator Services, 6 p.m. February 8 at Gary Ransdell Hall, room 1074.
- Black History Month Night at Lady Topper Basketball, sponsored by WKU Athletics, 2 p.m. February 10 at Diddle Arena.
- Will You Be My Crush?, sponsored by NAACP, noon to 3 p.m. February 14 at Downing Student Union lobby.
- WKU Regional Diversity Conference, featuring The Conscious Lee and Dr. Demetria Miles-McDonald, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. February 16 at Downing Student Union, third floor.
- The Poetry Slam Night, sponsored by the Muslim Student Association, Black Student Alliance, and the African Student Union, 6 p.m. February 19 at Downing Student Union, room 3020.
- Living Legends Mixer, sponsored by the Society of African-American Alumni, Black Student Alliance, ISEC, and Why Knot Us, 6 p.m. February 20 at the Eva and Jim Martens Alumni Center.
- Kulture Karaoke, sponsored by NAACP, 6 p.m. February 22 at Downing Student Union, room 2085.
- Race-Based Stress and Trauma and Its Impact on Mental Health, sponsored by the WKU Counseling Center, 3 p.m. February 26 at Downing Student Union, room 2081.
- The Black Experience, sponsored by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and WKU Forensics, 6 p.m. February 29 at Downing Student Union Auditorium.
- Gail Martin Lecture Series with Dr. Kishonna Gray, sponsored by Gender & Women Studies, 4 p.m. March 1 at Cherry Hall, room 125.
- Louisville Cultural Experience, sponsored by Student Activities, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. March 2 in Louisville.
- Black History Month exhibit, Visual Art and the American Experience, February 1-29 at the ISEC Gallery in Downing Student Union, room 2041
