WKU in Owensboro Hosts Reception to Honor Badgett Scholarship Recipients 

Thirteen Hancock County graduates have received the J. Rogers Badgett Sr. Scholarship from WKU in Owensboro this academic year. Tuesday night, students, guests, and Mr. Bentley Badgett from the Badgett Foundation joined WKU in Owensboro and Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) faculty and staff to celebrate at a reception hosted by WKU in Owensboro.

During the reception, Badgett spoke about the purpose of the foundation, which supports college-bound students who want to earn their degree close to home – and provide an educated workforce for the region.

“Education is vital to the success of a community, and we are pleased to help support students from our community who want to pursue their education,” said Badgett.

The J. Rogers Badgett Sr. Foundation Scholarship was established in 2010 to provide tuition support for Hancock County graduates who attend OCTC or transfer to WKU in Owensboro to complete their bachelor’s degree. There’s also a scholarship for Hancock County teachers who pursue a Master of Teacher Education at WKU in Owensboro. Additional support is provided by the Foundation to OCTC.

This year’s 13 recipients from WKU in Owensboro are Crystal Barnardi, Cameron Blan, Miles Brager, Taylor Curry, Hayleigh Dixon, Tiffany Davis, Bailey Hall, Jenae Keown, Destiny Roberts, Sara Roberts, Edward Robinson, Kirsten Wheatley and Erika Young.

Additionally, OCTC recipients are Kaitlyn Atwood, Halle Coomes, Lisa Hendricks, Ireland Kennedy, Katelyn Kerr, Leyla Poole, James Roberts, Lexie Roberts Kaleb Swihart, Abby Walz, and Maggie Wilson.
