Dr. Martha Sales, WKU’s Dean of Students and Interim Vice President of Student Experience, was inducted into the Franklin-Simpson Hall of Fame on Thursday evening (April 25).
“I was totally surprised, humbled and honored,” said Dr. Sales, a native of Franklin and a 1987 graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School. “For me, this recognition was a reminder that even when you don’t realize it -- people are watching you.”
Dr. Sales, the daughter of Hezekiah and Georgia Robey, received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work with a minor in African American Studies from WKU. She has since earned a Master of Arts in Counseling in Marriage and Family, and Educational Specialist degree in Student Affairs, and Women Studies graduate certificate as well as a doctorate in Educational Leadership from WKU.
Dr. Sales, one of five 2024 Hall of Fame inductees, encouraged those attending the ceremony at the high school to “be yourself – everyone else is already taken.”
She and her husband, the Rev. Shawn Sales, have two children, Seth and Kiah Sales. She is a member of the Loving Springs Baptist Church where she serves as a musician, youth/young adult advisor, and Sunday school teacher. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
“I am just a girl from Franklin and I want everyone to know it. I am so thankful to God for blessing me with uncommon favor,” Dr. Sales said.
“In my current role at WKU, I get to host Franklin-Simpson High School students, faculty and community members on campus and show them around, talk to them about college and WKU, help them enroll, show them they can do it because I did. And I get to see them graduate,” she said. “That’s so amazing to me! Full circle!”
