The Center for Gifted Studies Hosts 130 Students at SCATS Summer Camp

June 10, 2024 (Bowling Green, KY) -- The Center for Gifted Studies at WKU is hosting 130 campers for the 42nd annual Summer Camp for Academically Talented Middle School Students (SCATS). Camp will run from June 2 to 14.
Located on the campus of WKU, SCATS provides enhanced learning opportunities for academically talented sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students.
Throughout these two weeks, young people from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky and 7 other states (Arkansas, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee and Texas) are participating in 19 engaging courses.
Students attend four classes daily at the two-week camp. The Center offers a diverse curriculum encompassing music, science, art, math, history and acting with classes including Applications of Geometry, Legends Exposed: Unraveling Urban Myths, Musical Troupe, Dolls and Stories of Russia, Actually, It IS Rocket Science, and more.
Outside the classroom, residential campers participate in a variety of engaging activities, such as sports matches, a dance and a talent show.
“SCATS is a summer tradition at WKU, bringing middle school students to campus from across Kentucky and beyond. The experience is known for the advanced, minds-on learning as well as opportunities for making friends while enjoying a variety of activities,” said Julia Link Roberts, executive director of The Center for Gifted Studies.
