2025 Department of Labor Changes
- Monday, November 11th, 2024
As many of you are aware, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has announced their final ruling regarding the minimum salary threshold for determining exemption from overtime payments. These changes will have significant implications for our organization, particularly in terms of awareness and compliance.
January 1, 2025, marks the implementation of the second phase of the ruling, which establishes a minimum salary threshold of $58,656 for exempt employees. Anyone currently classified as an exempt employee that earns an annualized salary below this amount, with minimal exceptions, will be reclassified as a non-exempt employee and be eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked beyond 40. More detailed communication will be provided to those affected.
We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition during this time. WKU Human Resources will be providing training on the DOL changes and implications. Affected employees and their supervisors are highly encouraged to attend.
