A brand-new Data Science degree program at WKU is the product of an innovative partnership between the Gordon Ford College of Business and the Ogden College of Science and Engineering. The new program merges computer science, statistics, business data analytics, and economics to not only provide students with a well-rounded skill set but also help meet the needs of our community.
“The new Data Science program is exciting because our colleges have teamed up to provide students robust experiences that provide them with both the technical fundamentals and application opportunities,” said Dr. David N. Brown, Dean of the Ogden College of Science and Engineering. “This kind of cross-campus cooperation benefits our students and, in turn, our community.”
Students in the program will gain proficiency in technical skills and business concepts through hands-on projects, practical applications, and a minor or certificate in a related discipline.
According to Dr. Alex Lebedinsky, Associate Dean of the Gordon Ford College of Business, “The program will offer an excellent return on investment for the students - the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that more than 20,000 new data science jobs with a median salary over $100,000 will be created annually over the next decade.”
The Bachelor of Science in Data Science is an undergraduate degree program and requires 51-61 credit hours to graduate.
