Friends and family of the Kentucky Soybean Board ("the Soy Family") presented the Michele Winchell Memorial Scholarship to Jasmine Wilson, a student in Western Kentucky University's Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program.
This one-time scholarship, awarded in the amount of $3,350, was established to honor the life and legacy of Michele Winchell, a devoted WKU alumna and passionate advocate for the mental and physical well-being of farmers across rural communities.
Winchell earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner, and Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, all from WKU.
Winchell was passionate about healing people and helping individuals in rural farming communities. Her dedication to healthcare and her community continues through this meaningful gift, made possible by the “Soy Family” she loved so much.
Her husband, David Winchell, a WKU Agriculture graduate and active member of the Kentucky Soybean Board, joined fellow Soy Family members in presenting the scholarship check to Wilson during WKU Nursing Research Day 2025.
