Department of Engineering hosting 13th annual robotics competition Nov. 3
- Thursday, October 25th, 2012
The WKU Department of Engineering will conduct the 13th annual Kentucky Bluegrass Robotics Competition on Nov. 3.
About 15 teams from a dozen schools have signed up for the competition, which is the Engineering Department’s primary high school outreach effort. The competition provides secondary school students with a challenging engineering design experience and secondary school teachers with guidance in teaching engineering topics.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at WKU’s Engineering and Biological Sciences building.
Teams build a robot using construction materials provided by WKU; the robots will compete against each other in an Olympic-style “Robot Pentathlon.”
Engineering faculty member Kevin Schmaltz is coordinating the department’s efforts, with faculty and staff members Robert Choate, Julie Ellis, Shane Palmquist, Ron Rizzo and Stacy Wilson providing major support for this effort. WKU engineering students, including the Electrical Engineering student section of IEEE, support the set up and execution of the event.
