Sixty Campers Attend 3rd Year of The Summer Camp

The Center for Gifted Studies at Western Kentucky University recently hosted The Summer Camp from July 14 to July 18.

Located on the campus of WKU, The Summer Camp is a day camp designed for advanced ability and high interest children who have completed grades one, two, three, or four during the previous school year. This year, The Summer Camp’s theme was patterns.

This year, 60 young people from 16 Kentucky school districts, five Kentucky private schools, and four states participated in The Summer Camp.

Students attended five classes each day, including Acting, Art, Clowning, Language Arts, and Science. Students also had the opportunity to learn from scholars at the Governor’s Scholars Program, who taught them how to make microscopes. A guest lecture on math fractals and a cookout on the final day were highlights of the weeklong camp.
