WKU MPA Students Participate in new Voices of Discovery Program
- Tuesday, February 24th, 2015
Sasha Ross, partnered with other professors including the Political Science department head Saundra Ardrey, plan on bringing together a diverse group of student to meet and discuss cultural differences. Ross plans for these conversations to go past the surface level diversity talk, and really learn more about what being culturally different means.
Three students from the MPA program, Simone Smith, Abdul Samad and Nathan Dalrymple, were drawn to the program. Smith was drawn to the discussion on religion by her interest on the subject as a whole, and hopes "to move from cultural awareness to cultural understanding". Samad hopes to gain the perspective of other students, but also hopes to dismiss misconceptions others may have about Muslims. Dalrymple was most interested in the students of color and white students group. He believes that racial discrimination is still an issue in the United States, and that the best way to equalize the races in this country are to acknowledge the differences.
The Department of Political Science would like to congratulate these students, and wish them the best in this new groundbreaking program.
