WKU will dedicate its new WKU Glasgow Military Student Services Center at 10 a.m. Sept. 2.

The dedication will include remarks from Tonya Archey, United States Navy veteran and director of WKU’s Military Student Services Center; and Dr. Evelyn Ellis, Regional Chancellor at WKU Elizabethtown-Fort Knox. The event will be held in room 131 of WKU Glasgow at 500 Hilltopper Way.

A steering committee has been working since late 2014 on plans for the center at WKU Glasgow. Along with Archey, the committee includes Krystol Stinson, USN Retired and Outreach Coordinator for Veterans Upward Bound at WKU; Kathy Fraim, Counselor of Educational Opportunities Centers at WKU Glasgow; Janey Cline, Administrative Assistant & Coordinator for Dual Credit at WKU Glasgow; Sergeant First Class Joe Petett and Sergeant First Class Scott Hutchison, Kentucky Recruiting & Retention Battalion, Kentucky Army National Guard; Phyllis Reed, Head of Advising at WKU Glasgow; Heather Garcia, Marketing Manager for WKU’s Regional Campuses; John Roberts, Coordinator of Student Affairs at WKU Glasgow; and Bill Walter, Regional Vice Chancellor at WKU Glasgow.

WKU Military Student Services (MSS) began in 2011 with the mission to provide personalized support for all our military, veterans and dependents.  Currently, WKU MSS provides many services, including free textbooks for eligible military students through Textbooks for Troops, support and guidance with GoArmyEd and tuition assistance requests for all branches of the military, a Veterans Resource Center (a dedicated space for military, veterans and dependents) located at Tate Page Hall 410 on the Bowling Green Campus. The Student Veteran Alliance, a coalition of student veterans helping each other succeed, uses the space for monthly meetings, as well.

In addition, WKU offers unique services to our military students that are not available at any other university in Kentucky: a discounted tuition rate of $250 per credit hour to all active duty, reserve, and National Guard members, the only Veterans Upward Bound program in the state, as well as the only therapy dog, CanDoo.  The Textbooks for Troops program is the largest scholarship program of its type in the nation. WKU hosts an award-winning Army ROTC program as well as an Air Force ROTC.
