WKU Glasgow hosted a recognition ceremony on Wednesday (Sept. 2) for a unique donation to the campus, an outdoor stage.
According to Dr. Sally Ray, WKU Glasgow Regional Chancellor, several donors were involved, which led to the special ceremony. Ray began by recognizing each organization or person by name.
“We want to recognize Bill Bucher and Ben Bucher of Square Deal Lumber Company and Don Baker and Jeff Hinkley with HVAC Services for their donations that allowed Sustainable Glasgow to construct the stage, originally,” Ray said standing by the stage. “We want to recognize Jeff Phillips of Lawn Pro for his assistance in disassembling, transporting and reassembling the stage where it is today, and to Jimmy Perkins of Perkins Excavating for the use of his construction equipment that allowed us to move it all here.
“Finally,” she continued, “we want to recognize Dr. Jerry Ralston and Billy Ray of Sustainable Glasgow, Inc., for working with the officers, board, and members of Sustainable Glasgow on our behalf to make this tremendous donation possible.”
The stage has a wood deck floor and framework with a metal gabled roof with square steel columns. Ray said it is a welcomed addition and enhances the atmosphere on the back patio area of the campus.
“As you can see, it is a wonderful addition to our patio area. It creates a place from which we can host outdoor events for our students,” Ray said. “Whether professors design those events to enhance classroom instruction or student services designs them for student social gatherings, this stage will get a lot of use, and it will enhance the university experience of all of our students.
Serving students from more than 14 counties north and east of the campus, and a couple of counties in Tennessee, this regional university campus offers bachelor’s degree and master’s degree programs, as well as associates and certificate programs. In addition, there are professional academic advisors and financial aid counselors on campus. This WKU campus also houses the Glasgow Tech program for SKYCTC.
