Any seasoned Head Start staffer knows firsthand the advantages that Head Start offers not only to the children, but also to families, the community, and even the staff themselves. Folks new to Head Start 0-5 will also recognize the importance of continuing the positive work of Head Start and emphasizing the advantages. To aid in this endeavor, T/TAS is hosting a brand new training appropriate for both new and seasoned Head Start staff, The Head Start Advantage: Affirming the Positive Results of Our Work with Children & Families. This new conference will uniquely deliver a combination of targeted work sessions, practical strategies, and lively, interactive activities. The ultimate goal is for participants to be educated, empowered, and reaffirmed in their work with children and families. The Head Start Advantage: Affirming the Positive Results of Our Work with Children & Families takes place December 13-14, 2017 in Nashville, Tennessee at the beautiful Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center.

Our Specialists at T/TAS are excited about presenting this important topic, and we are looking forward to seeing many familiar faces and meeting many more new Head Start staff! Until then, staff can tap into bountiful online data and resources to assist Head Start programs in selling their advantages to a wide range of potential clients in the social service and early childhood development arenas.

ECLKC’s Research Reports page is full of resources touting the positive experiences and advantages of Head Start programs. The NHSA Center for Policy, Data, and Research also has a treasure trove of information, statistics, and references substantiating the advantages of Head Start. If you have never visited the NHSA Center for Policy, Data, and Research, schedule some time for a quick glance and possibly find some resources that are new to you.

This 2016 research report at The Brookings Institute website, The Long-term Impact of the Head Start Program, is also a valuable resource. One of the conclusions of the report is, “We find that Head Start not only enhances eventual educational attainment, but also has a lasting positive impact on behavioral outcomes including self-control and self-esteem. Furthermore, it improves parenting practices—potentially providing additional benefits to the next generation.”

Even though Head Start has proven to be a success from its initial start over 50 years ago to its longstanding record today, Head Start staff realize that they share an obligation to ensure that the advantages and positive results of working with children and families continue into the future. It is therefore vital that both current and new staff are familiar with the advantages Head Start provides and the positive results of working with children and families.
