WKU Health Services Hosting KCHA Fall Meeting

Libby Greaney, Director of WKU's Health Services Department is currently the President of the KCHA.
The meeting is scheduled to include a tour of WKU's new Health Services building, two guest speakers, round table discussions and lunch will be provided to all participants by Academic Health Plans (AHP), a student health insurance partner.
Two speakers are scheduled to present on two relevant college health topics:
At 9:30 A.M. Robert Hilgers, M.D, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Louisville Medical School and founder of the KY Cervical Cancer Coalition will speak on current research in cervical cancer, the latest on vaccines, updates on his work with the Coalition and an update on a grant proposal for peer health educators for education and awareness on this issue.
At 1:00 P.M. Dr. Karl Laves, Ph.D , licensed counseling psychologist and Assistant Director of WKU's Counseling and Testing Center will present Question Persuade Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper training, a standardized suicide prevention program endorsed by the Kentucky Suicide Prevention Group. QPR is a mental health training program that parallels CPR; it provides basic skills that can be used with a suicidal person until that person can be treated by a professional. QPR is quickly becoming a preferred method to prepare faculty and staff to work with students that may be depressed or suicidal. Gatekeeper Certificates will be awarded for those who attend this session.
Registration is limited to 30 and is free to Kentucky College Health Professionals.
