The WKU Police Department will be sporting a new look on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 23).
The department’s 22 officers will be wearing new black uniforms that feature an outer vest worn over the shirt.
“The outer vest type of uniform seems to be the way more agencies are going,” Sgt. Rafael Casas said. “The outer vest system is designed to have a more professional look.”
Casas said the new uniforms, which were chosen by WKU police officers, are more comfortable and include a suspender system that distributes the weight of the equipment belt from the waist to the shoulders.
In addition to switching from gray to black uniforms, the department also made minor color changes to the shoulder patch.
“The WKU Police Department has a new chief and a new look,” Casas said.
Mitch Walker, who had been serving as interim chief since August 2016, was named the new police chief on Sept. 13.
