The WKU Forensics Team traveled to both the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri, and the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to take part in four tournaments the weekend of Oct. 21-22.

At the tournaments in Mississippi, co-hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University, WKU placed second in overall team sweepstakes for the two tournaments combined. Other competing schools included the University of Alabama, Tennessee State University and Wiley College. Additionally, at the William Carey tournament, three WKU team members took the top three ranks at the tournament as overall top performers.

For the two Missouri tournaments combined, WKU placed second in overall debate sweepstakes and overall combined debate and individual events team sweepstakes.

Next weekend the team will split again, to compete at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

Results from the Third Annual University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University “Hub City” Swing tournaments

• Durwan Green, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, overall champion performer, tournament champion in prose interpretation, tournament champion in dramatic interpretation, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Sean Diaz) and second in poetry interpretation at the William Carey tournament; second in dramatic interpretation, third in duo interpretation (with Matt Wisenden) and fourth in duo interpretation (with Sean Diaz) at the Southern Mississippi tournament.
• Megan Armstrong, a senior from Morehead, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking, tournament champion in impromptu speaking, sixth in after-dinner speaking and sixth in informative speaking at the William Carey tournament; second in extemporaneous speaking, third overall top performer, fourth in after-dinner speaking and fifth in informative speaking at the Southern Mississippi tournament.
• Sean Diaz, a senior from El Paso, Texas, tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation, fourth in dramatic interpretation, fourth in duo interpretation (with Durwan Green) and fifth in duo interpretation (with Sam Moore) at the Southern Mississippi tournament; tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Durwan Green) second overall top performer, second in programmed oral interpretation and fourth in duo interpretation (with Sam Moore) at the William Carey tournament.
• Sam Moore, a senior from Blue Springs, Missouri, tournament champion in poetry interpretation, third in dramatic interpretation and fourth in duo interpretation (with Sean Diaz) at the William Carey tournament; fifth in duo interpretation (with Sean Diaz) at the Southern Mississippi tournament.
• Claire Champagne, a sophomore from Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, tournament champion in persuasive speaking at the Southern Mississippi tournament; third in after-dinner speaking and third in persuasive speaking at the William Carey tournament.
• Asha Wasuge, a senior from Irvine, California, tournament champion in after-dinner speaking at the William Carey tournament; third in after-dinner speaking and fourth in poetry interpretation at the Southern Mississippi tournament.
• Quest Broussard, a freshman from Delcambre, Louisiana, tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation at the William Carey tournament; fourth in programmed oral interpretation at the Southern Mississippi tournament.
• Matt Wisenden, a junior from Moorhead, Minnesota, third in duo interpretation (with Durwan Green) at the Southern Mississippi tournament.
• Rickey Williams, a freshman from Minneapolis, Minnesota, fourth in prose interpretation at the Southern Mississippi tournament.
• Sabas Del Toro, a junior from El Paso, Texas, fifth in dramatic interpretation at the Southern Mississippi tournament; sixth in prose interpretation at the William Carey tournament.
• Natalie Hedberg, a junior from Chaska, Minnesota, fifth in poetry interpretation at the Southern Mississippi tournament.
