GFCB Hosts Business and Professionalism Week
- Sunday, November 5th, 2017
The Gordon Ford College of Business will host Business and Professionalism Week November 6-10 to provide students a variety of opportunities to develop and hone their workplace readiness skills. Most events will take place in Grise Hall on WKU’s main campus.
“Business and Professionalism Week is the perfect time for students to concentrate on developing the skills necessary for entry into the professional business environment,” said Dr. Evelyn Thrasher, coordinator of the Professional Education and Knowledge Program (PEAK), the group that plans the week’s events and activities. “We tell students that professional success doesn’t begin when they walk across the commencement stage. Preparing for workplace success begins while they are still in college.”
Some of the premier events of the week include the following:
The Professional Clothes Closet allows students to select a full business outfit for free. This is held on Monday, November 6 from 11 am until 2 p.m.
Students will also participate in a series of “speed” workshops taught by their peers. These speed workshops include resume preparation, building a LinkedIn profile, learning about decision-making biases, and money management techniques. These workshops will be held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Business professionals and alumni from the area will lead seminars during the week as well as participate in a Networking Reception on Thursday afternoon from 4:30-6:30. The reception allows students and professionals to meet in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss careers.
Students interested in internships will be able to get their questions answers during the Internship Forum to be held Tuesday, November 7 from 11:30 am until 1 p.m. in the Honors College International Center’s multipurpose room. Pizza will be provided by U.S. Bank.
Breakfast and snack sponsor for the week is Tri-Arrows Aluminum Inc.
