Western Kentucky University senior Madeline Marita has been selected as the recipient of the WKU Library Student Assistant Scholarship for spring 2018. Marita, originally from Florence, Kentucky, is working on a major in Communication Disorders with a minor in Music and carries a grade point average of 4.0. She has been working in the libraries since winter of 2016 and works in stacks management and security.
According to Doug Wiles, library security coordinator and supervisor, Madeline is cheerfully willing to assist in any way she can. “Her careful attention to detail and her general good nature combined with her motivation to excel academically and personally make her an outstanding student assistant,” said Wiles.
In addition to her major and job on campus, Marita is a member of the Honors College, and involved in numerous activities, including Kelly Autism program, WKU Best Buddies, WKU Women’s Chorus, WKU Amazing Tones of Joy, Running Club, Outdoor Recreation Activities Center, Southern Kentucky Choral Society, St. Thomas Aquinas Church Music Ministry, and WKU Campus Activities Board. She is a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota Colony at WKU (music and service fraternity), the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association, and participated in the WKU Weekend in the Woods leadership retreat.
“I have always valued commitment,” said Marita. “I strive to put my best effort into everything I do…I strive to find new activities that I feel make a positive impact on the community of Bowling Green.”
The scholarship is sponsored through funding from the Friends of WKU Libraries. For more information on the Friends program, go to wku.edu/library and click on “Support Us.”
