Welcome to Today@WKU, the daily newsletter from WKU Public Affairs, for March 5, 2018.

WKU Ceramics students made, glazed and fired over 140 handmade bowls for the Empty Bowls of Bowling Green fundraising event. Empty Bowls aims to end hunger within our communities by partnering with local artists and community members who provide handcrafted bowls for the event. The 6th annual Empty Bowls event will take place Thursday (March 8). All funds from the event are donated to area charities to provide food to those in need.

View from the Hill: Mahurin Honors College kicks off speaker series: The Honors College at WKU kicked off its first-ever speaker series with a Bowling Green native who is the Dean of Timothy Dwight College at Yale. WKU's Amy Bingham talks with Dr. Sarah Mahurin in this View from the Hill.
Summer Early Entry 2018 Registration is Now Open: For many students, math, literacy, and English are challenging subjects. As students enter college, they often need developmental classes to prepare them for future coursework. Summer Early Entry (SEE) allows first-time freshman the opportunity to complete developmental courses during the summer, while bridging the gap between high school and university level courses.

PS1 & PS2 Used Nightly for Event Parking: WKU is hosting the 2018 KHSAA Regional Basketball Tournaments in Diddle Arena through March 6. PS1 and PS2 will be used for event parking. Students and faculty/staff with current WKU parking permits may use the structures as space allows.
2018 Winter Weather Communications Plan: Check out a reminder about WKU’s winter weather communications plan that provides a number of ways you can find out if classes are delayed, canceled or if a campus is closed.

Softball: Aikey Spins One-Hitter as Hilltoppers Top Dayton in Walk-Off Fashion: Sophomore pitcher Kelsey Aikey spun a one-hit gem for WKU Softball as the Hilltoppers closed weekend play with a 1-0 walk-off victory over Dayton (4-12 on Sunday. The Red and White closed Hilltopper Spring Fling play with a 3-2 record while moving to 14-6 overall with the team's fourth walk-off win of the season. Next: WKU will host SIUE at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Baseball: Toppers Fall to Mountaineers in Series Finale: With three unearned runs on the afternoon, West Virginia defeated WKU Baseball by a score of 7-1 at Nick Denes Field in the final game of the series. Colie Currie and Colin Butkiewicz each had a pair of hits for the Hilltoppers, who fell to 5-7. Next: WKU at Belmont at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Women’s golf: Lady Toppers Return to Action in North Florida's UNF Collegiate: The WKU Lady Topper Golf team enters its first of two straight weeks of competition in Florida, participating this week in North Florida's UNF Collegiate. The Lady Toppers will be one of 17 teams competing today and Tuesday at the par-72, 5,926-yard Jacksonville Golf and Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
Men’s basketball: Hilltoppers Earn No. 3 Seed in Conference USA Basketball Championship: WKU Hilltopper Basketball will be the No. 3 seed in this week's 2018 Conference USA Basketball Championship and will open play against either sixth-seeded UAB or 11th-seeded Florida Atlantic at 9 p.m. CT Thursday in Frisco, Texas. The HIlltoppers' quarterfinal matchup on Court B will be streamed online on Facebook via Stadium from Ford Center at The Star, the training facility of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. Women’s basketball: Lady Toppers Drop Regular Season Finale at UTEP, 80-75: WKU led for much of the afternoon behind a career-high-tying 31 points from Ivy Brown, but a fourth-quarter comeback by UTEP dealt the Lady Toppers an 80-75 loss in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon inside the Don Haskins Center. Next: The Lady Toppers (21-8, 12-4 C-USA) will be the No. 2 seed in this week's C-USA Tournament in Frisco, Texas. The Lady Toppers are set to open play on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. (CT) against the winner of seventh-seeded Florida Atlantic vs. 10^th-seeded UTSA. More: C-USA tournament bracket
Tennis: Lady Toppers Fall 4-0 to Indiana: WKU fought a hard battle on Saturday afternoon, but was ultimately defeated by the Indiana Hoosiers in a 4-0 decision. Next: WKU at UAB this Saturday.

Art project honors Bosnian War's victims, survivors: When WKU junior McKayla Cash remembers high school, the history of the 1990s Bosnian War and the 100,000 people killed is starkly absent. Cash worked with Bosnian artists last week to carve the faces of those touched by the war into walls at the Kentucky Museum’s courtyard. For Cash, an art education major from Campbellsville, it was a moving experience.

Topper Travelers Program 2018: The WKU Alumni Association is planning a Baltic Cruise across Northern Europe June 21-July 2. The 10-night cruise across the Baltic Sea aboard Marina will begin in Copenhagen, Denmark, with stops in Berlin, Germany; Helsinki, Finland; St. Petersburg, Russia; Tallinn, Estonia; and Stockholm, Sweden.
