On Friday (March 2), WKU Midnight on the Hill for St. Jude (MOTH) hosted its inaugural event, formerly known as Up ‘til Dawn, for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
WKU students have been fundraising for St. Jude for over a decade, but this year the format of the celebration was changed. Since August, students have fundraising through an email campaign. Executive board members also hosted a variety of fundraising programs and efforts.
On Friday, about 150 WKU students joined together at the Downing Student Union in celebration of the year’s fundraising efforts. The Midnight on the Hill began at 6 p.m. and was filled with entertainment, food, games, fellowship, St. Jude moments, and much more. The evening concluded at midnight were the total was revealed.
This year’s MOTH program brought in a total of, $45,126.99 for the kids of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Brianna Witty, a former St. Jude patient and current WKU student, spoke to the crowd about her experience and was a highlight of the evening. Mik’quan Deane, current WKU football player, was the emcee for the night.
