• Talisman wins Gold Crown for magazine, website: Talisman, WKU’s student-run life and culture magazine and companion website, has been awarded the Gold Crown, the top honor given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
• WKU research shows set of anti-cancer compounds that do not damage cells used in hearing: New WKU research shows that a set of structurally unique platinum compounds are effective against cancer but do not damage sensory hair cells that are responsible for hearing.
• Kentucky Rural-Urban Exchange accepting new applicants: The Kentucky Rural-Urban Exchange is accepting applicants for its 2018 cohort. Members from across the state will gather in Bowling Green June 8-10, in Knott County Aug. 3-5, and in Covington Oct. 12-14.
• WKU Week in Photos for March 5-9: Check out the latest installment of WKU Week in Photos by Clinton Lewis and Bryan Lemon of WKU Public Affairs.
• WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. • Men’s basketball: Hilltoppers Rout Boston College 79-62 at Home in NIT Opener: WKU Hilltopper Basketball kept its season alive with a dominant performance Tuesday night, routing ACC foe Boston College 79-62 in a first-round NIT home game at E.A. Diddle Arena. The Hilltoppers (25-10) shot 55.4 percent from the field and held Boston College to 38.5 percent, picking up their first NIT victory since a 2005 win over Kent State. Next: WKU at Southern California at 10:30 p.m. CT Monday.
• Women’s golf: Lady Tops, Joiner Notch Commanding Spring Break Shootout Victories: Tuesday proved to be a dominating day with two victories for WKU Lady Topper Golf at their own Spring Break Shootout. The Lady Toppers won the team crown by a convincing 24 strokes with an 880 (289-301-290) tally, while sophomore Mary Joiner claimed individual medalist honors with a 4-under 212 (79-73-70) – eight strokes ahead of second-place teammate Georgina Blackman.
• Softball: Early Lead Doesn't Hold for Hilltoppers at No. 8 LSU: Leading as much as 3-0 over No. 8 LSU from Tiger Park Tuesday night, WKU Softball would ultimately drop the midweek tilt, 7-3. The Hilltoppers became just the third team to put up three or more runs on the nationally-ranked Tigers (23-2) this season while moving to 17-8 on the season with the setback. Next: WKU at South Alabama at 4 p.m. today.
• Baseball: WKU’s Rally Falls Shy of Visiting Colonels, 7-5: Trailing Eastern Kentucky by five runs going into the bottom of the third, WKU Baseball almost found a way to rally back, but ultimately fell short by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday afternoon. Colin Butkiewicz went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, extending his team-best hit streak to seven games. Next: WKU begins Conference USA play with rival Middle Tennessee coming to Nick Denes Field for a Friday-to-Sunday set.
• Women’s basketball: Ticket Information, Fan Bus Available for NCAA Tournament in Knoxville: Ticket information for Friday's first-round NCAA Tournament game against Oregon State in Knoxville, Tenn., at 11 a.m. (CT) is now available, and the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation will also send a fan bus from Bowling Green for Friday's contest. Tickets for the WKU fan section inside Thompson-Boling Arena will be $25 for chair back seats and will be allocated based on Hilltopper Athletic Foundation priority rank. Tickets are only available for fans through the WKU Ticket Office at (270) 745-5222 locally or 1-800-5-BIGRED. Only limited tickets are available, and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets as soon as possible.
• Tennis: Singles Rally Allows WKU to Defeat EKU 5-2: WKU defeated in-state foe EKU 5-2 in a neutral site match Tuesday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. After losing the doubles point, the Lady Toppers rallied to win five of six singles matches and to claim the overall victory.

WKU in the News

• Tops bury Boston College to advance to NIT's second round: WKU and Boston College battled for about a quarter-and-a-half Tuesday – then the home team kicked it into hyperdrive. The Hilltoppers (25-10) sent BC home with a 79-62 win in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament. Justin Johnson led the way with 19 points and 12 rebounds during WKU’s offensive explosion.

• Topper Travelers Program 2018: The WKU Alumni Association is planning a Baltic Cruise across Northern Europe June 21-July 2. The 10-night cruise across the Baltic Sea aboard Marina will begin in Copenhagen, Denmark, with stops in Berlin, Germany; Helsinki, Finland; St. Petersburg, Russia; Tallinn, Estonia; and Stockholm, Sweden.
