Student and Faculty Research Different Approaches: “We are finding a dramatic difference in the impacts on students between the two types of service learning we are studying,” said WKU senior Alexa Hatcher. “Through critical SL, students are becoming empowered and feel that they are doing something that really matters in their community. They are also staying involved after class ends, none of which happens for the students who did a traditional SL project.”

WKU in the News
- Inspired by movie, WKU student aims to provide kids ‘A Place to Sleep’: “You’re never too young to make a difference,” said Jessica Collins, 19, a nursing student at WKU. She means those words now, and she meant them at age ten when she gave roots to a program that donates beds to children who lack such a basic resource. The project is called “A Place to Sleep,” and since 2010, about 1500 bed sets have gone to deserving young people, mostly in Jessica’s hometown community of Shelbyville.
- Next stop for Tops: Oklahoma State with a trip to NYC on the line: WKU played in front of 2,130 people Monday in Los Angeles, eliminating Southern California from the National Invitational Tournament via a 79-75 win. Oklahoma State averages 6,796 fans per contest and beat Stanford on Monday in front of more than 9,600. Cowboy fans will be present and loud and rabid at 7 tonight when WKU and OSU meet at Gallagher-Iba Arena in the quarterfinals of the NIT.
