Activities planned to increase sexual assault awareness & prevention: Hope Harbor, Inc., WKU Counseling and Testing Center, and multiple campus and community groups have joined efforts to coordinate 20 Sexual Assault Prevention Month events to raise awareness, share prevention information and encourage support for sexual assault survivors, not only at WKU but in the surrounding communities. The activities begin today at the Downing Student Union with a kickoff event at 10 a.m. and a proclamation signing at 2 p.m. followed by the opening of “What Were You Wearing?” exhibit.
Journalists Who Broke USA Gymnastic Sex Abuse Case to Speak at WKU April 9: The Indianapolis Star investigative reporters who broke the Larry Nassar sex abuse case and helped bring justice for more than 150 victims will speak at WKU’s School of Journalism & Broadcasting on April 9 for the annual John B. Gaines Family Lecture. Marisa Kwiatkowski, Mark Alesia and Tim Evans will discuss the Nassar case and sex abuse in USA Gymnastics in a panel moderated by WKU Journalism Professor Amanda J. Crawford. The event, part of Sexual Assault Prevent Month activities, will be held at 7 p.m. in Jody Richards Hall auditorium.
WKU chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society inducts 31: The WKU chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society inducted 31 members at its Spring 2018 Induction Ceremony on March 21 at the Downing Student Union.
212° Academy students win Young Authors contest: 212° Academy students Haley Graham, Virginia Stewart and Bella Wahbeh have been selected as the winners of the SOKY Book Fest – 212° Academy Young Authors Contest. Graham, daughter of Keith Graham and Stephanie Graham, wrote the fantasy book Silvers of Hope. Stewart and Wahbeh, who co-authored the fantasy book Quest for the Gemstone, are the daughters of Richard Stewart and Rena Stewart and Becker Wahbeh and Tonia Wahbeh, respectively. Graham is a 6th grader from Jody Richards Elementary School, and Stewart and Wahbeh are 6th graders from Cumberland Trace Elementary School.

Baseball: Kirkpatrick 4-Hits Rice in Complete Game Shutout: Righty Paul Kirkpatrick did something Sunday that had not been accomplished in nearly 11 years by a WKU Baseball pitcher. The senior spun a complete-game shutout to power the Hilltoppers to a 4-0 victory and a series win over Rice. Next: WKU at EKU at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Tennis: WKU Falls to C-USA Rival Middle Tennessee 4-3: Lady Topper Tennis fought hard on Sunday afternoon, taking four singles matches to three sets, but ultimately fell to Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee 4-3. Next: WKU (8-4, 2-1 C-USA) will return to action Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn., to take on the Lady Volunteers.
Women’s golf: Lady Tops in Ninth After First Day at Georgia State Tournament: WKU Lady Topper Golf is tied for ninth, but within eight shots of fourth heading into the second round of Georgia State's John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate. The Lady Toppers fired a 317 team total Sunday in the first round at the par-72, 6,043-yard Eagle's Landing Country Club. Jacksonville leads the field at 299. The second round begins this morning.
Track & Field: WKU Wraps Up Black and Gold Invitational with Three Titles, 20 Top-10 Finishes: WKU Track and Field opened its outdoor season with a strong showing at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt Track and Field Complex. WKU finished the competition Saturday afternoon with a total of three event titles and 20 top-10 finishes. Next: WKU will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays March 29-31.
Football: Hilltoppers Wrap Up First Week of Spring Practices: One week in and three practices down, WKU second-year head coach Mike Sanford likes what he has seen from the Hilltoppers. WKU puts on the pads for the first time this spring camp on Saturday, and Sanford came away impressed by his team's energy and competitiveness.

WKU's Clark-Heard takes Woman of the Year award: Fittingly, a highly successful leader of young women was honored as Woman of the Year at Saturday’s 26th annual Women of Achievement Awards Luncheon at Mariah’s Restaurant. Michelle Clark-Heard, who has guided the WKU women’s basketball team to four NCAA Tournament appearances and won two conference coach of the year awards in her six seasons as Lady Topper coach, was selected for the award from a group of 17 honorees.
Local residents chant 'Gun Control Now' at local March for Our Lives event: Warning that their lives and families are on the line, hundreds of students, teachers and local residents marched Saturday through downtown Bowling Green as part of the national March for Our Lives to call for tighter gun laws. As survivors of last month’s school shooting in Parkland, Fla., led thousands in Washington, D.C., local students made their own voices heard by marching from Cherry Hall at WKU to Fountain Square Park.
Special Needs Expo offers several resources to people with disabilities: The inaugural Special Needs Expo was held in the Knicely Center for people with disabilities to get information on essential resources.
Hilltoppers hope NIT run brings added exposure to program, school: WKU is headed to the Final Four – no, not that Final Four. While the Hilltoppers (27-10) will be playing in New York on Tuesday instead of a few days later in San Antonio, they hope the buzz they’ve created locally, regionally and even nationally pays dividends in the future. Topper Travelers Program 2018: The WKU Alumni Association is planning a Baltic Cruise across Northern Europe June 21-July 2.
