• Stone crabs add powerful bite to Gatton Academy senior's research project: Gatton Academy senior Olivia Bickett is working on a research project with WKU Biology Professor Steve Huskey to quantify the pressure produced by a stone crab’s crusher claw.
• WKU’s exercise science program: The power of research to improve health: From metabolism and biomechanics to immune function and the benefits of exercise on different populations, there’s an incredible variety of research happening at any given time in WKU’s exercise science program, part of the School of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport.
• WKU Partners with Ft. Knox U.S. Army Recruiting and Retention College (USAREC): WKU recently participated in a Continuing Education Degree Program (CEDP) Signing Ceremony with the U.S. Army Recruiting and Retention College (USAREC) at Ft. Knox.
• WKU's Top Economics Students Initiated in Honor Society: The WKU chapter of the Omicron Delta Epsilon International Honor Society in Economics initiated 22 students and one business leader during its annual initiation banquet held Friday, April 6.
• WKU CCSJ 'Second Tuesday Salons' series continues April 10: Dr. Anthony Harkins of the WKU History Department will present Race, Class, Region and Television from the Beverly Hillbillies to Duck Dynasty as part the WKU CCSJ "Second Tuesday Salons" series on April 10.
• Department of Modern Languages to host 2018 Hatcher Lecture April 19: Elaine Wonhee Chun, associate professor of English and Linguistics at the University of South Carolina, will present Responding to Racist Language: An Interactional Approach at 4 p.m. April 19 at Downing Student Union, room 2132.
• WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. WKU Sports

• Softball: Carter's Home Run, Aikey's Pitching Anchor Tops' Series-Clinching Win Over UTEP: Trailing 6-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, WKU Softball mounted its largest come-from-behind win of the season with six unanswered runs to clinch the series victory over UTEP with a 8-6 win from The Hill on Sunday. Paige Carter knocked a three-run home run to give the Hilltoppers a 7-6 advantage in the bottom of the fifth and Kelsey Aikey secured her ninth victory of the season with 3.1 innings of two-hit, shutout ball in relief. Next: WKU will continue its homestand as Eastern Kentucky will visit The Hill on Wednesday for a doubleheader slated for 3 p.m. CT.
• Baseball: Toppers Fall at No. 13 Golden Eagles in Series Finale: After a 7-1 win on Saturday, WKU Baseball dropped the series finale to No. 13 Southern Miss by a score of 14-1 at Pete Taylor Park. Jacob Rhinesmith went 2-for-3 and scored a run in his third multi-hit game of the series. Next: WKU at Vanderbilt at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
• Men’s golf: Hilltoppers Head to Lipscomb Event After Monthlong Hiatus: After a month off from competition, WKU Hilltopper Golf returns to the course this week at Lipscomb's Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate. The Hilltoppers will be one of 11 programs competing today and Tuesday at the par-71, 6,943-yard Richland Country Club in Nashville, Tenn.
• Tennis: Lady Toppers Defeated by No. 41 FIU: No. 41 FIU proved to be tough competition for WKU on Sunday afternoon when the Panthers defeated the Lady Toppers 4-1. This was the final match of regular season Conference USA action for WKU. Next: WKU at Memphis on Saturday.
• Track & Field: WKU Earns 11 First-Place Finishes at Hilltopper Relays: WKU Track and Field finished first in 11 events at the Hilltopper Relays on Friday at the Charles M. Ruter Track and Field Complex. Between the Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers, 20 personal records were either tied or bested throughout the day. Next: WKU competes in the APSU Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
• Men’s basketball: Johnson Earns Second Straight C-USA Spirit of Service Award: For the second straight year, WKU men's basketball senior Justin Johnson has been named one of 14 recipients of the C-USA Winter Spirit of Service Award, as announced by the Conference USA office on Friday. • Football: Defensive Coordinator Clayton White Adds Assistant Head Coach Title: Second-year defensive coordinator Clayton White has added the title of Assistant Head Coach, WKU head football coach Mike Sanford announced on Friday. More: Week Three Closes Out with Team Scrimmage
• Women’s basketball: Bowen Promoted to Assistant Coach on Lady Topper Basketball Staff: In his first official hire as the head coach of Lady Topper Basketball, Greg Collins announced on Friday afternoon that current Lady Topper graduate assistant Jhasmin Bowen will be promoted to a full-time assistant coach for the program effective immediately.

• Franklin native Mary Joiner enjoying historic season for WKU golf: It was only three years ago when Mary Joiner wrapped up her stellar golf career at Franklin-Simpson High School, which included first team all-state honors, a Region 4 championship and finished tied for third at the 2015 Leachman Buick GMC Cadillac/KHSAA State Golf Championship. Now, in only her sophomore season at WKU, Joiner was awarded her third Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week honor after her program-record fourth career victory last weekend at Eastern Kentucky's Colonel Classic.
