The Bike4Alz riders have made it back to Kentucky on their cross country trip from California to Virginia. The group participated in a fundraising event Monday in Paducah and will participate in a fundraising event Friday in downtown Bowling Green. - Catherine Carey to serve as GFCB Interim Dean: Catherine Carey, Chair of the Department of Economics at the WKU Gordon Ford College of Business, will begin a year of service as Interim Dean of the College effective July 1. Dr. Carey was selected as Interim Dean when Dr. Jeffrey Katz announced his decision to return to the classroom as a Professor of Management and the Oppitz Endowed Professor of Business.
- Peake Named Director of Center of Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Whitney Peake, Vitale Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Gordon Ford College of Business, has been named the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, effective July 1. She replaces Dr. Dawn Bolton, who is retiring.
- In VAMPY Arabic Class, Competition Fuels Learning: On the third afternoon of this year’s VAMPY Arabic class, several countries were embroiled in a major competition. The board listed the bracket and the scores, and one team was still trying to make it into the finals. Sadibou Ceesay of Berea and his teammate, Chase Whitman of Leitchfield, representing the United Arab Emirates, stared at a word written by their classmates in the Arabic alphabet. Their task was to translate the word into English. The only clue they had was that the category was “animals,” and their only tool was whatever knowledge of the alphabet they had acquired since the course began. More: Gifted Studies’ camp blog.
- Follow the Bike4Alz riders: WKU students are making the sixth Bike4Alz cross country ride to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. The group will arrive in Bowling Green on July 5 and will participate in a fundraising event July 6 at the SOKY Marketplace in downtown Bowling Green. - Athletics: New State Law Adds Sales Tax to WKU Tickets: Beginning with the new 2018-19 fiscal year, which began July 1, the Kentucky Department of Revenue is requiring all non-profit organizations to collect a 6-percent sales tax on admissions to events hosted by the organization which includes athletic events.
- Volleyball: Incoming Freshman Lauren Matthews Named AAU 18 Open All-American: Across the final week of June, incoming WKU Volleyball freshman Lauren Matthews competed at the AAU Junior National Girls' Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Fla., and earned a spot on 18 Open All-American Team for her efforts. A middle hitter on the Asics Team Indiana Elite 18-1 club, Matthews was one of 14 honorees from the top AAU division.
- Football: Countdown to Kickoff – 100 Days of Hilltopper History: WKU Football will kick off its 100th season on August 31, and each day this summer, WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique and interesting history of Hilltopper Football, from never-before-seen photos to game tickets and programs and everything in between.

- WKU students riding 3,600 miles for Alzheimer’s research: Thirteen WKU students rode into Paducah Monday during their trek across the United States. They are riding for the right reasons.
- WKU College of Business announces new interim dean: Catherine Carey, Chair of the Department of Economics at the WKU Gordon Ford College of Business, will begin a year of service as Interim Dean of the College effective July 1.
- WKU professor passes away in Vietnam: The WKU professor who was injured while in Vietnam has passed away. According to his wife's Facebook page, Dr. Ed Bohlander passed away as the air ambulance crew arrived in Vietnam.
