• Mexican journalist to receive Award for Courageous International Reporting: WKU's School of Journalism & Broadcasting will welcome Mexican journalist Marcela Turati to campus in late September as the recipient of the third annual Fleischaker/Greene Award for Courageous International Reporting.
• Faculty & Staff Convocation This Morning: WKU will kick off the new academic year at 8 this morning with the annual WKU Faculty & Staff Convocation at Van Meter Hall Auditorium. The event will feature entertainment by the WKU Redshirts, faculty and staff award presentations and remarks by Provost Terry Ballman and President Timothy C. Caboni. • View from the Hill: Topper U introduces freshmen to WKU traditions: Classes don’t start until Monday at WKU but the incoming freshmen are already getting “schooled” on the university’s rich history as part of M.A.S.T.E.R. • WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. WKU Sports

• Soccer: Barnett's Big Night Leads WKU Past Evansville, 4-1: Freshman Ambere Barnett fired two goals and assisted on a third, and two more strikes from Aleksandra Kozovic and Sarah Gorham powered WKU to a 4-1 win at Evansville on Thursday evening for the team's first victory of the 2018 regular season. Next: WKU will host Miami (Ohio) at 1 p.m. Sunday at the WKU Soccer Complex. All WKU Soccer home matches this season will feature free admission for all fans.
• Football: Practice Report: After WKU Football team practice wrapped up on Thursday evening, senior quarterback Drew Eckels and the Hilltopper offensive line gathered near the sideline and set up formation in front of the loudspeaker. Cranked up to the max, tracks of crowd noise and House of Pain's infamous 1992 hit "Jump Around" alternated as Eckels practiced communicating with his protection unit. With over 80,000 Wisconsin fans expected at Camp Randall Stadium when the Hilltoppers face the Badgers on August 31, this is necessary preparation.
• Volleyball: WKU Headed For Opening Weekend in Charleston: With its preseason training camp in the books, WKU Volleyball is headed for opening weekend of the 2018 season at the Hampton Inn Charleston/West Ashley CofC Classic. The Lady Toppers will take the court once today, with a match slated for 2:30 p.m. CT from TD Arena in Charleston, S.C., playing Alabama. Weekend play will continue on Saturday for the Red and White with matches against host College of Charleston and Missouri State.
• Baseball: WKU Adds Assistant Coach Ben Wolgamot to Staff: WKU Baseball head coach John Pawlowski announced the hiring of assistant coach Ben Wolgamot to the Hilltopper staff on Thursday morning. Wolgamot comes to The Hill from Valparaiso University, where he had been an assistant coach since 2013.
• Football: Countdown to Kickoff – 100 Days of Hilltopper History: WKU Football will kick off its 100th season on August 31, and WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique and interesting history of Hilltopper Football. More: Clear Bag Policy
• Men’s basketball: Countdown to Tipoff - 100 Days of Hilltopper Basketball History: The 100^th season of WKU Hilltopper Basketball will tip off in November. WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique moments and interesting history from Hilltopper Basketball leading up to the start of the 2018-19 season. More: Vote for All-Century Team.

• WKU, SKYCTC band together for engineering pathway: A new engineering pathway between Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College and WKU is offering students a smoother path to a four-year degree.
• Baker Arboretum hosting lecture on garden pollinators: For this year's distinguished lecture, the Baker Arboretum is hosting horticulturist Jason Reeves to speak on the importance of planting pollinator-attracting plants in gardens at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at Knicely Conference Center.
